Cycloidal cam gears

Cycloidal transmissions are special disc cam transmissions at high, constant ratios.

The cam component, which contains both cam flanks, is mounted eccentrically and freely rotating on the drive shaft.

A cam flank is supported on a first frame-fixed roller star (displayed in white), while the other moves a second roller wheel (yellow) on the output shaft. The ratio of the number of rollers on both wheels is decisive for the achievable gearing ratio.

Since the load is distributed over many contact points between rollers and cams, large torques can be transmitted.
